The Truth Sets You Free

Posted on

On the 19th of April, which was Good Friday, I was in our garden with our little dog Rosie and I had just finished hanging out the washing on the line on such a lovely, sunny day. I noticed the keys were still in our garage door. When I was about to check if it was locked and bring the keys back in to our house, I noticed in the side window of our garage that a butterfly had been trapped inside amongst all the dust and webs. Straight away I wanted to help it get out, so I went inside the side garage door and I found a box of matches on the shelf. I got a match stick out to try and remove the dust from the delicate butterfly to help it escape. The butterfly was panicking and panicked more when I tried to rescue it but what joy I had when I managed to wipe the dust from its legs and watch it fly free out the door without any harm!

This experience reminded me of how God desires to release each one of us from the sin that so easily entangles us (as described in Hebrews 12:1) and to let us go free. Even the fears and the lies that the enemy puts in our minds to get us discouraged and doubtful, not trusting God and His promises and not knowing who we are in Christ. God's desire is for us to be confident in knowing who we are in Him and for our total freedom, to live for Him and soar high with Him! It gives God great joy when He sees His children being liberated.

What amazed me also about this experience was that it happened at the time I had been working on a painting of a butterfly!

'Therefore if anyone is in Chirst, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things become new.' ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

Jesus said, "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
